PepsiCo aims to increase recycled content by 15% and reduce virgin plastic by 5% by 2024

PepsiCo recently released its 2024 ESG Summary Report, which shows that the company's R&D team continues to explore and launch technologies to improve food packaging, reduce plastic use, and enhance the recyclability of food and beverage packaging. By 2030, the company aims to have 97% or more of its primary and secondary packaging designed to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable (RRC). By 2024, 93% of its primary and secondary packaging designs in key packaging markets (representing 80% of PepsiCo's global packaging volume) had achieved RRC. For example, in China, Pepsi Black's full-bottle sleeve label was replaced with a label that covers part of the bottle. The company also launched 7-Up, the first carbonated beverage made from 100% recycled PET, in Taiwan Province, and Sting®, the first energy drink made from recycled PET, in India. In 2024, PepsiCo will reduce the use of virgin plastic in primary packaging in major packaging markets by 5%. By 2030, PepsiCo will reduce the use of virgin plastic in primary packaging in major packaging markets by 2% annually. At the same time, in 2024, the recycled content of primary packaging in major packaging markets will reach 15%. PepsiCo hopes to achieve the goal of using 40% recycled content by 2035 or earlier.
